Cheerleading - Introduction
HAPA's Cheer program is run in conjunction with the Australian All Star Cheer Federation (AASCF) and the United States All Star Federation (USASF). Cheerleading is a high energy sport that combines dance, stunts, chants, poms and acrobatic Tumbling.
HAPA runs Cheer, Stunt and Tumbling classes seperately to give students the time they need to focus on building their skills.
Cheer Squad
All Cheer Squad classes will learn squad routines which can be performed at the AASCF State Cheer Championships. Squad routines combine several elements of competitive cheerleading such as dance, stunt and tumbling.
Cheer Stunt Training
Stunt training classes are taught in a safe and supervised environment by qualified and experienced cheer coaches. Stunts are a great way to learn team work as students must rely heavily on other team members to achieve the desired stunts. Students are generally given a stunt place early in the year of either Flyer/Top, Base or Back Spot/base.
Tumbling (acrobatics)
Tumbling classes are similar to gymnastics and acrobatics with the emphasis on developing the fundamental techniques that will enable students to progress safely and effectively. Skills learnt range from forward and backwards rolls through to Aerials (no handed cartwheels) back handsprings and back layouts. Cheer tumbling focuses on power tumbling, with skills learnt specifically to be executed in a straight, running line or from standing in order to fit neatly and safely into squad routines.
Cheer Strength Training
This class is vital for the serious cheer athlete as it focuses on building the strength and flexibility required of a cheer athlete.
